Enrichment Days
Chichester Cathedral
A lovely time was had by everyone at the Cathedral.
After a lively session of waking our brains to puzzle solving, our first activity was learning about angles, degrees and how workmen worked out 'height' when building the Cathedral hundreds of years ago. We learnt about Clionometers and how they were used to find angles and heights, especially important when building the Cathedral. The children made their own Clionmeters and were able to find the angles and height of some of the structures inside.
Our second activity was using Roman Numerals, the group searched for births and deaths on many of the memorials of people buried or remembered there. Some had been recorded in Roman Numerals so the children had to work out the numbers first, then the years. Some of the more recent ones were written in numbers, so they changed them back into numerals.
After lunch our last activity was looking at co-ordinates and compass directions. We had a map of the Cathedral and had to find certain objects by using the co-ordinates and the compass directions. These helped us to find all the treasure and answer questions on our worksheets.
All the children had a great time today, learning lots of new things that they can share with the rest of their class and school.
