Our reception class is called Hedgehogs and is taught by Ms Greco.

At Ashington CofE Primary School, our Reception children learn through a carefully balanced blend of purposeful play and high-quality teaching. We provide a rich, engaging environment where continuous provision is thoughtfully planned to encourage exploration, independence and creativity. Children have access to a wide range of stimulating resources both indoors and outdoors, allowing them to revisit and deepen their learning through play.
Our curriculum is built around high-quality, carefully chosen texts that inspire a love of reading and language. These stories act as a foundation for learning, sparking imagination and supporting the development of communication, literacy and understanding of the world.
We take an adaptive approach to teaching, ensuring that all children are supported and challenged according to their individual needs. Adults skilfully guide learning through questioning, modelling and interaction, helping children to build confidence and make progress.
Curiosity is at the heart of everything we do. We create exciting “hooks” to capture children’s interests and motivate them to learn, whether through hands-on experiences, themed activities or real-life connections. At Ashington CofE Primary, we nurture enthusiastic, inquisitive learners who are eager to explore, discover and grow.

Our Classroom Reflective Area
The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our school community is central to school life. Each classroom has a reflective space where children can go to reflect, pray or simply ‘be’.
