Our Year 1 class is called Foxes and is taught by Miss Axworthy.

At Ashington CofE Primary School, our Year 1 children continue to build on the strong foundations established in Reception through a carefully balanced approach to learning. We combine purposeful play with more structured teaching, ensuring a smooth and supportive transition into Key Stage 1. Our classroom offers high-quality continuous provision, where children can explore, practise and apply their learning in meaningful and engaging ways.
Our curriculum is enriched through the use of high-quality, carefully selected texts that inspire a love of reading and support the development of language and writing. These texts provide a context for learning across the curriculum, encouraging imagination, discussion and deeper understanding.
We use an adaptive approach to teaching, recognising that every child learns differently. Through skilled support, challenge and questioning, we ensure all children are able to access learning and make strong progress.
Curiosity remains central to our Year 1 experience. We introduce exciting hooks to capture children’s interest and bring learning to life, through a combination of lreal life and imagined experiences. At Ashington CofE Primary School, we nurture confident and curious learners.

Our Classroom Reflective Area
The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our school community is central to school life. Each classroom has a reflective space where children can go to reflect, pray or simply ‘be’.
